Our long-term commitment to sustainability
Terms like "sustainability" and "energy saving" currently dominate public discussion. A paradigm change and the broad introduction of techniques to generate "green energy" seem more urgent than ever.
Minitube Germany has been among the early adopters in this respect: for 10 years, solar plants covering the roof of our production building and the entire walls of the warehouse are producing approx. 180,000 kWh per year, covering about 60% of Minitube´s electricity consumption.
The solar plant is complemented by an energy efficient block heat and power plant. Large areas of the warehouse are heated and cooled by an advanced combination of a ground-source heat pump and thermal concrete core activation: in winter, the concrete ceilings and the ground plate are used to store and spread thermal energy while the technology can be reversed and used for cooling in summer.
Apart from technical aspects, Minitube promoted sustainability over decades simply by its main field of activity: substantial contributions to artificial insemination (AI) in animals laid the foundation for major breeding progress over the last decades. Due to improved feed efficiency and milk production as compared to the 50ties, Germany is today able to save more than 3% of agricultural land not needed for forage production and approx. 600,000 tons of climate-wrecking methane per year because of the lower number of cows kept for milk production.
