Human semen packaging set: safe, sophisticated and proven in practice
Maximum safety for the male fertility reserve
Cryopreservation of sperm as a fertility reserve is an established procedure and commonly performed prior to oncological treatment or vasectomy. However, it is not only the professional freezing process that is decisive for the success of future fertility treatment. The "hardware" in the form of the packaging material also plays an important role in the safe storage of irretrievable samples, their optimal use and the preservation of sperm viability.Minitube HS set: tried and tested for decades
More than 40 years ago, leading fertility specialists and a cryobank joined forces to form the "HS Ring" and formulated the requirements for a safe fertility reserve for men. At that time, Minitube already offered all the components needed for freezing and storing sperm. Together they developed a new product, the human semen packaging set (HS set). Since its introduction in 1982, it has been used tens of thousands of times. Thawing tests have impressively shown that even after almost 20 years of cryostorage in the HS set, sperm cells are showing good survival and motility rates.Continuous improvement and development
Although today's HS set is still similar to the original 1982 product, it has been improved in many ways and adapted to the state of the art. Today, you benefit from a fully mature kit. It contains everything you need to safely fill and package an ejaculate for cryopreservation - easy to store, clearly identifiable and extremely space-saving.Let's take a closer look at the components:
- Straws: 36 short straws of 0.28 ml each hold up to 10 ml total volume. They ensure a uniform, easily controlled freezing process and are mounted in a magazine for easy handling. One end of each straw is ultrasonically sealed and individually tested for tightness. For fertility treatment, the number of portions to be thawed can flexibly be adjusted to sperm quality without wasting any sample volume.
- Cassettes: Three flat cassettes hold the straws efficiently with no dead space. Their transparent sheaths allow you to easily check the contents. The cassettes are completely closed to prevent straws from floating. The colored lift (seven color codes) ensures clear allocation and easy removal.
- Identification code: Straws and cassettes in an HS set are printed with a cryo-resistant, easy-to-read, unique identification code. This code can be easily linked to an accompanying (electronic) document containing all necessary information about the sample.
- Adhesive labels: For analog documentation, 12 self-adhesive labels with the same alphanumeric code are included - ideal for linking to patient records.
- Cannula and sealing balls: A cannula for filling the straws and sealing balls for the open end complete the set. We recommend the CryoSealer, our automatic ultrasonic sealing device for optimum sealing.
All components of the HS set are sterile. The straws are tested for sperm toxicity, endotoxins and bioburden. The set is also ideal for independent storage in a cryobank.
