Award-winning bird protection: Minitube creates safe glass surfaces
Minitube Germany has been awarded the "Bird-friendly glass surface" plaque by the Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz (LBV). Dr. Peter Stimmler from the LBV presented us with the award for our innovative measures to actively combat bird strikes.
Every year, more than 100 million birds die in Germany because of collisions with glass facades. At the Minitube logistics center in Tiefenbach, Germany, birds were repeatedly found dead. We reacted quickly and implemented a scientifically proven solution with the SEEN Elements bird protection marking. The aluminum dots with a special 9/90 millimeter grid make glass visible to birds and significantly reduce collisions.
Implementing the measure was a challenge: The large glass facade of the logistics center, which is 6.20 meters wide and 7.50 meters high, required a complex installation. However, thanks to the dedication of employees Hans-Peter Bauer, Nelly Zweckl and Florim Latifi, who installed the markings themselves using a scissor lift, the project was successfully completed. Since then, no further bird strikes have been recorded on the glass surface.
The dedicated team accepted the award on behalf of Minitube - in front of the now bird-friendly glass facade. This initiative is just one example of how Minitube takes responsibility and gives its employees the opportunity to actively participate in sustainable projects. In addition to bird protection, we are also involved in other environmental activities: Our company grounds are landscaped with insect-friendly plants, there are nesting places for birds and insects, and intensive outdoor lighting is avoided.
